This episode introduces another new villian, but unlike our prediction - the show has yet to bring back any baddies from the first four episodes. It will be interesting to see what the writers decide to do in terms of an arching storyline and how it will all tie in together at the end. It should go without saying that the following text is almost exclusively filled with spoilers for this episode, so if you haven't seen it yet, "Beware"!
Beware The Batman - "Broken" Episode Synopsis
The fifth episode of Beware The Batman, entitled Broken, opens up with a weird red statue of a toy soldier that appears in the middle of the street, and starts to attack police officers. Upon further inspection, they realize there's somebody stuck inside of the statue. Moments after Commission Gordon orders his officers to get the jaws of life to cut open the statue to free the prisoner, Batman shows up and tells them why that would be a bad idea. The toy soldier's suit is a bomb. The man inside is none other than Joseph Crimple, "Ice Pick Joe", a known Gotham City goon.
Back at Wayne Manor, Tatsu realizes the Soultaker Sword she stashed inside a vase at the end of episode 4 has gone missing. After frantically scouring the mansion under the guise of looking for her keys, Alfred lets her in on a little secret. Alfred found the sword and moved it into another room for safekeeping, much to the relief of Tatsu. She goes on to discuss the history of the sword with Alfred, and to explain how she came across it in the first place. Alfred learns that his protege was in fact an undercover agent working for the CIA when she came into possession of the sword, but she deemed it too powerful to hand over to her bosses.
Commission Gordon's home is assaulted by an army of toy soldiers, and Barbara Gordon, his daughter, bumps into a massive villain as she tries to escape the gun fire. Humpty Dumpty becomes the most recently introduced villain into this series, but he's not there for Barbara Gordon, here's there to kidnap the commissioner... and he does just that.
At Humphrey Dumpler's home, Batman figures out a way to disarm the explosive Toy Soldiers, which comes in handy when he makes his way to Humpty's Castle, and sure enough Humpty is waiting for him on the wall. Batman is able to rescue Tobias Whale who doesn't stick around to help. Can you really blame him?
Episode 5's Conclusion
This episode concludes with a retreat from Humpty Dumpty. He places a decoy of himself on a very tall wall, which shatters into many pieces after a great fall, as one might expect from somebody with such a name. Commissioner Gordon is once again safe and sound, but for how long? Batman acknowledges that Humpty may have backed down this time, but chances are he'll be back again with another evil plan the next time he gets bored and wants to play again.
That acknowledgement seems to suggest that Humpty will be showing up again down the road. Will all of the previously defeated evil-doers team up and work together? When will the League of Shadows come back to claim the sword from Tatsu? How long until she learns the truth about Bruce Wayne? That all remains to be seen, but things are definitely starting to pick up, leaving us eagerly awaiting next week's episode.
