New Batman Movie
No comic book hero has been treated to as many cinematic adaptations as Gotham's legendary Dark Knight. Since the character's revival in the Tim Burton films to Christopher Nolan's more recent interpretations, audiences have seen Bruce Wayne and his superhero alter ego through the eyes of many directors. The latest effort to reboot the franchise is about to reveal the third chapter in Nolan's vision. This new Batman movie will be called "The Dark Knight Rises" and will again star Christian Bale.
When the first rumors about this third film started to circulate on Internet message boards, there was a lot of speculation as to who the principle villain would be. Many people were worried that Nolan would make the mistake of trying to do too much and incorporate too many classic foes at the same time.
The comic itself has run for decades and with several distinct titles, and there is such a rich and complex world to work with that it can be easy for a director to get overwhelmed. It is similarly easy for this vast compendium of rivals, enemies, and allies to confuse audiences if things are not handled well.
Two of the Dark Knight's most persistent foes in the comic series have already been dealt with in the Nolan reboots. The first film was not particularly villain oriented, but did present Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow and Liam Neeson as Ra's al Ghul. Neither of these characters are considered major foes in the greater Dark knight universe, but the second film introduced the Joker and Two Face. The Joker, most fans will agree, is by far the most important of all of the villains of Gotham.
Information about the third offering was initially kept tightly under wraps, but little by little the director and production team began to reveal details. Casting information was exceptionally interesting to the legions of fans on the Internet, and they vies to see who could get the scoop ahead of everyone else. Would Mr Freeze show up? How about Poison Ivy? Anticipation was tinged with apprehension.
It seems that the main villains in Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" are slated to be Catwoman and Bane. The character of Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, will be familiar to those who remember Tim Burton's second film. Christopher Nolan has decided to cast well-known actress Anne Hathaway in the role of Selina Kyle.
Bane is a lesser-known character to casual fans of the DC universe. He is one of the Dark Knight's most difficult enemies as he is fantastically intelligent as well as incredibly strong. This breaks the trope set by characters such as the Incredible Hulk or Swamp Thing, and might make for a very interesting villain if Nolan handles Bane correctly.
This new Batman movie looks like it might be interesting. Most people have enjoyed the previous two, especially the second one, and the director has a few solid of well-received movies behind him. It will be interesting to see how the character of Bane is used by Christopher Nolan, and whether or not Selina Kyle has adopted the persona of Catwoman by this point of the saga.
